We moved in about a year ago and still the room is empty and the walls are very plain. I'm unsure of what will look good.

How fun, you have a blank canvas.

I always start with my window treatments. It's much easier to match paint to curtains then the other way around. Watch hgtv, look in magazines and catalogs and get lots of inspiration. My livingroom came together after a found a photo in a Pottery Barn catalog. I bought the curtains and then found close matches to everything else from other (less expensive) places.

After you pick your curtains choose a paint color. The room will already look polished, but that's when you can start looking for wall hangings and accessories that coordinate.

Have fun with it!

Telling you how to decorate you living room would be like telling you what to wear today, or what to eat for dinner. That has to be your own taste.

When I was redecorating my living room, I bought books, went to lots of stores, (took digital camera with me). Start with the flooring. Do you have carpet or area rugs? After about four trips to rug stores, it was easy to know which one I liked. That is the foundation of all the rest. Then the big pieces of furniture, couch, big chairs, coffee table. Then any smaller pieces. Then window treatments, then lighting, and prints or wall hangings. Finally are all the knick-knacks.

Before I did that, I bought several magazines on home decor, and looked through them. I found them better to navigate than online decor sites.

i might want to commence through portray the walls a medium taupe coloration with white trim. Paint the ceiling a dwindled gray. i might want to pair 2 Memphis chairs in black velvet with Eileen gray's adjustable breakfast table between them. in the back of each and every chair i might want to position matching floor lamps with dimmer switches so that you'll be able to adjust the mild in accordance on your needs. i might want to end off the room with a effective wool area rug in an fairly classic floral trend - something that appears like it got here out of your large large grandmother's the front room. some small leather-depending footstools, one for each chair) would truly help in making it a effective relaxing area. think ofyou've got to hunt on the internet for the particular products i discussed, yet you may want to not have any issues looking them. they're classic layout products, accessible. have exciting!
