Sauvignon Blanc or Riesling...

Try Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Sauvignon Blanc or Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc...

or J. Lohr Bay Mist Riesling or Bonny Doon Pacific Rim Riesling

You could also do a sparkling wine. If you have a Trader Joe's near you, try Espiral Vinho Verde - it's crisp and dry from Northern Portugal.

If you have a Trader Joe's close to you, they have the absolute best selection and price for wine & spirits. I would suggest a 2003 Pinot Noir or even a 2003-2004 Chianti. They are light red wines that will not over power the taste of the Lobster like a Merlot or Cab would. Good Luck.

NOT a chardonnay, if it is North Atlantic lobster (called Maine lobster in the USA, the kind with claws, although 90% of it is harvested in Canada or Europe's Bay of Biscayne and surrounding waters). Chardonnay just overwhelms the delicate taste. Choose instead a dry, fruity white, like a pinot gris or dry reisling or Muscadet or a tarragona white for such lobster.

However, you say you are going to grill yours so that suggests you are referring to Pacific or Indian Ocean spiny lobster, which has a firmer taste and texture that can stand up to a chardonnay.

This is from Food and Wine:

A lush Chardonnay with a hint of earthiness best complements the cream sauce and sweet earthy beets here. Two bargain examples: the 2000 Amberhill California and the 2001 Casa Lapostolle Casablanca Valley from Chile.

I would go with a nice Chardonnay. If serving your seafood simply steamed or boiled, Chardonnay complements the richness of the seafood and has lots of body with a nice balance of fruit.

If you were looking for something slightly different and stylish I would recommend a Viognier.

These are two wines that would go great with a butter-based sauce.

First of all...don't listen to the white wine/red wine "rules people"...the general "rule of thumb" is white wine with fish... drink what you like!!!

Personally, I think white wine...especially fruity white wine stinks, especially with grilled seafood, so I would go with a pinot noir.

And on another note...whoever suggested white zinfandel should be shot...it's freakin kool aid wine...

A nice Sauvignon Blanc would go well with the lobster.

Any white wine or possibly a white zinfandel.

White with white meat.
Red with red meat.

BTW: Red wine should not be chilled, but served at room temperature whereas White should be chilled.
