It's because she was too young to be taken from her mum, and she does it for comfort. =) If she doesn't stop, there are, as has been mentioned, several healthier means of getting her to stop.

We have a three months old kitten, and she's still a bit "slobbery" when she washes herself, but we don't really mind the noise. ^^ at least not yet

She was weaned way too early. She is suckling for comfort and out of habit. With being weaned so early, this is a habit that can continue throughout life but that isn't always the case. Talk to your vet about the safest way to help her stop this. Hot sauce isn't a good idea, animals aren't meant to eat such spices.

Hot Sauce for any child (human, kitten,.. any) BAD BAD BAD,.. some times causes death but some people think this is good practice because they are unaware.

Bath your Kitten (yes, you can bath your cat all you like,.. but some people are under the the false information they can not bath a cat EVER in ALL it's life.. *rolls eyes*). Examine your Kitten. Are you leaveing food, water and toys?

There may be something wrong with the area or the kitten may be tasteing soemthing good there. It may also be doing this behavior in it's sleep like the activities of a sleep walker.

It may be bored and need something mentally and physically stimulating like a container with cat nip inside (certain toys).

The problem is called "wool sucking" and is a common behavior in cats that were separated from their mother too soon. Sometimes it gets better with time, sometimes they do it their whole lives. There are products made specifically to keep animals from licking or chewing on themselves, Fooey and Bitter Apple spray are two brands. They discourage licking because they taste really bad, and they are safe to use.

find kitty some kind of kitty pacifier--she was taken away from mommy too soon. maybe allow her to suck on yourmhand between your thumb and forefinger--my cat does that. kitty needs to suck just as a baby human does. be patient with her--offer her an alternative to her paw.

Your kitten has a problem and I do not think it is anything to do with missing Mum. She either has a complaint in the affected area or she has fleas. Take her to a vet.

The fact that you got her so young, before she was fully weaned, is why she's doing the suckling. It's a comfort thing.
