i ponder this same question-kinda like, why are they on my catholic forum trying to shoot down anything that anyone says?? it doesnt make sense. it's almost as if they need to prove to THEMSELVES that "there is no God". i think that they are not completely certain that THEY believe this. they need as much supporting evidence that will make their claim a "fact". i think it shows nothing more than insecurity about their views. but that is just my two cents. there's no need to argue about something if you "know" you are "right", correct?
also, great job on striking some nerves! i see that some are still capable of being civil when this issue arises, while others just prove themselves to be babbling morons. i love it..

I am atheists, and I look at the religion questions because I try to keep open minded. That is how I became an atheist. I was raised Jewish and believed in it, until I decided to investigate other alternatives, such as science. I found the scientific evidence for things like the creation of the universe and evolution very convincing (after a lot of study) and I changed my outlook. However, it is an ongoing study. Just b/c that is how I feel now, doesn't mean this is how I will always feel. So, I keep my eyes and ears open. However, I have to say, I feel much more at peace with myself and the universe since I became an atheist. One other note, just b/c I am an atheist doesn't mean I don't support religion. I think it is a good thing overall and I have no problem with people being religious.

A question I have asked myself, but not so succinctly worded.
It seems that the more rabid their atheism (don't get me wrong, I am lifelong atheist), the more the concentrate on that section. I do think there is validity in the above answer about them still being insecure with their declared belief system. They feel that proselytizing will shore up their belief system. Or they are in the habit of being religious, and just can't give it up, kinda like a recovering alcoholic going to AA, and trying to recruit every alcoholic friend. It becomes a replacement for what they have abandoned.

One does not need to believe in God to be spiritual.
And there's a lot of nonsense that gets thrown around here as fact that needs to be corrected. Since most of the nonsense is about putting down other faiths, many Christians just sit arpound and nod their heads. Someone has to stand up for truth.

That's a good question why would you hang around something you don't believe in. Is it because if you tell people about atheist enough you might believe it. You don,t have to convince me you are wrong I know it.

Because there is a lot of discussion about belief systems here. This is a topic that interests a lot of atheists, such as myself. The topic is ABOUT Religion & Spirituality. It's not restricted to religious people.

Just because people don't agree with Christianity or other forms of organized religion doesn't make them atheists.
I happen to believe very much in God and life after death, but I feel that organized religion and people who quote the bible are bogus. I feel that organized religion has given God a bad name and it's time to stop it.

Atheists are allowed to have an interest in religion. It's not just something someone believes in... it's also a rather intriguing field of study.

Atheism is a religion, silly. It is a set of beliefs just like Christianity or Islam. You don't need to believe in a god to have religious beliefs.
