Lately my computer has been hanging, not responding, script not working - lottsa little stuff I can get around but it's a pain.

If I delete everything except Windows, then insert the Windows disc and reload it - will that take my computer back to the original start ?- i.e. take the registry back to original? and then start reloading the software I need again?

I'd like to get my computer back to where it was when I first got it without reformatting the hard drive.

You can reload Windows XP over current install. You just need to boot off disc. When it asks you what directory to load it on select c:. It will say a windows install already exist, do you want to install anyways, select yes. It will reinstall windows all you files will still be there, but you will have to reinstall all your applications.

you can try to use windows system restore and put it back to the earliest date possible. there is now way to have windows automatically put back all the installed programs you have, of course. you would be better of deleting the partition thatn creating a new one and reinstalling windows. make sure you save all your setup files or possibly write down the names of the programs you want to reinstall before you format your drive. I can't see another way to do this without reformatting. If you try to delete the Program Files Folder and My Documents folder and such, Windows won't let you.

Try to remember what the last thing was you installed before you had a problem, then uninstall it. I just had to throw out Yahoo Instant Messenger cuz it was making my browser lock up.

the simplest way is to restore your setting to the earliest date, so like this all your program will be wiped off... but i would suggest you to format it, you will have a better performance...
