They do sell salad cream in the states, try a larger chain store, you can even ask places like Wal-Mart.

NO, it ISN'T mayo or miracle whip!

I know how it feels to want something you left behind in your home country... I'm in London and would be the happiest transplant in the world, if the UK sold Miracle Whip.

Cheers

Hi!

Is it not strange how some of us get hooked on something that we found on our travels?

I agree with the Heinz Salad Cream .... and you can get it, as someone suggested at both The Vermont Country Store and
The English Tea Shop... on websites.

If you cook, there is a site "Recipe-For" which has a huge selection of various foods from old cookbooks ... and if you will look under a hardly obvious listing for "Dressing" you will find about six really good boiled dressing recipes, including one sort of sweet one for fruit salads.

The recipe offered here in the answers for Miracle Whip mixed with mustard, vinegar .... that sounds as though it might work.

If you live in or near a large city, try one of the fancier supermarkets and ask them if they carry the Heinz stuff...

Cheers!

Here in Canada we get Heinz and Cross & Blackwells salad creams, if you want to make the equivelent in the US, Miracle Whip with a touch of cider vinegar, a dash of dry mustard and a touch more sugar.

Mix the vinegar-1/4 cup, mustard-1 Teasspoon and sugar-1 tablespoon together, and then enough Miracle Whip to make it the consistancy of ranch dressing.

I like salad cream, except it is $3.00 for a 8 oz bottle, so the reasonable facsimile is my choice.

hmmm... I don't know what Heinz salad cream in the UK is.. but is it anything like the US's Kraft salad dressing or mayonaisse? (white, creamy stuff that you can spread on bread and mix into tuna salad?)

Try the sites below. They sell the salad cream and you could have it shipped to you. Try a cole slaw dressing by Marzetti. It might not be the same but it has some zippiness to it.
