Tolerance basically means that "you put up with something" no matter how much you disagree with it.
Maybe if we all stopped being so "Tolerant" of everything because it's Politically Correct to do this, we could make some positive changes in our society?

Tolerance is good.....IF it goes both ways
It doesn't usually

Christians tolerate others......others trample Christians

They will tolerate us....AS LONG AS we agree with them.....if we have differing beliefs then ....well...I'll be nice......lets just say we aren't allowed to have differing beliefs ........

Perhaps you should hope that I am tolerant of you.

PC is just a label used by people who choose not to think very hard about their own actions. It is true that sometimes a society ends up in stasis because of fears of offending someone or some group. However, it is better to have the philosophical and ethical question/struggle rather than to solve problems with a blanket (which smothers and increases the heat).

Eventually you may be the minority, the "special interest" group. Perhaps, then, you will hope for tolerance when power shifts.

Tolerance can be a good thing. If what you object to is hatefulness or cruelty, by all means; speak out. Let the person who is being objectionable know that you won't tolerate such behavior.

I agree with trying to be politically correct to some degree. We can't please all the people all the time but we can make an effort to be kind and use the golden rule.

Do unto others.

In general terms, one can never tire of tolerance. It would lead to chaos and even more wars than we already have going.

However, there are limits where political correctness and tolerance have been taken too far. I'd use the example of allowing oil baron Texans into the White House...but doubt that's one you'd agree with.

Tolerance is a double edged sword.

You need tolerance so you can get along with people, no matter thier background

and on the other hand, you know eventually you'll have to confront the person about their actions, beliefs, or lack of actions.

So you need to know wich to do based on the particular situation.

It depends on what you're talking about.

Anything that has to do with an individual's choices and affects an individual's life and their life only (or other individuals who have consented to being affected directly by that person's choices) should be up to them. If it's not hurting anyone but the person themselves, I see no reason to stop it. (And by "hurting", I mean potential harm to a person or personal property, not general offense at what someone else is doing.)

ETA: Oh heck, I'll sum up the ramble and say I'm a Libertarian.

I think you NEED tolerance in a society where everyone does not practice the same religion, customs, or holidays as you do. And that what the American society is Supposed to be about.

Tolerance of the beliefs of others is admirable. Tolerance of bigotry, purposeful ignorance, those who expect society to accommodate their religious agenda and those who attempt to inject that agenda into governmental and political matters is undeserved and should not be granted.

I learn more from people who are different from me than I do from people who are the same. Tolerance is a path to knowledge and wisdom. How could I be tired of that?
