The only example I can remember in the Bible is where King Saul summoned the witch at Endor to raise one of the Prophets from the dead to communicate with. The result was that the Prophet summoned warned Saul that he lost his throne, and the witch screamed when she realized that this plan clothed person was actually the king. The story is found in I Samuel chapter 28.

There shall not be found among you [any one] that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, [or] that useth divination [or] an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things [are] an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

Unless you claim to be Catholic where they preach praying to saints...communicating with the dead should be more of a Pagan practice as its, let's say, frowned upon by Christians.

Jesus said that the Lord is the God of the LIVING, not of the dead. As this was referring to Abraham and the prophets, and since Jesus spoke with Moses and Elijah on the mountaintop, I'd guess that at least that much is allowed.

That it is a sin of divination. Paul actually exorcised a "spirit of divination" from a little girl.
The dead are gone, on their way to be judged by our Lord.
