Yes, they are. Having had litters with BOTH in them, you can SEE the difference! That is why there are so many more people that do obedience and agility with Landseers than Blacks. The Volhards, Greenwalds......all Landseers. When you breed Landseer to Landseer, you get even more of those traits. Eventually, you will get something that doesn't seem very Newfie anymore. In some countries, the Landseer is a breed all itself. Watch for breeders who have bred ceveral generations of Landseer to Landseer....you will lose bone and head after a while!! Not to say Landseers not wonderful! I have a 10 week old bict ch and she is great! A little busy-body!!! The only bad thing is the number of people who think the are a Saint!!!!!!

I would question the Chocolate Lab theory. I know a few breeders of good quality show Labs and even their chocolates seem a tad more high strung than the others. Might be my imagination! I am far from a Lab person!!
But in Newfies, the Landseers ARE different!! Brown and Grey are like the black, but there is SOMETHING about those Lanseers........

Interesting, because people always ask this about chocolate labs and in labs there is no truth in the color variation/personality theory. The only difference is due to bad breeding, which unfortunately the chocolate has more of that in it.

My guess would be that it's dependent on the dog rather than the colour..but it's just that, a guess.
