Yes because of advances in medicine and medical research we can now keep someone's heart beating and lungs functioning long after their brain has turned to a blob of grey jelly. ain't science grand!

I agree. We don't have to jump into a darn horse and buggy and try and find doc Baker where ever he may be in Walnut Grove so he can treat us! Seriously though, we are closer to our doctors and we're more informed about the intricasies of most illnesses. On the other hand, why are we living longer with all the preservatives and fat in food? Back in the day, they lived off the land and worked a lot harder physically than most. hmmmm. Now I've changed my mind.

i think that they are living longer now a days because there is better medicine, education, less stress, reduced suffering and also people are generally happy and taking care of themselves. personally i think the fact that people are now more religious also has a part to play in people living longer because they know that some things are not allowed by their religion like pre- marital sex which could lead to teenage pregnancy and ST D's.

I think they are. We have better medicine, we live in better conditions, we have better lives (we are happier), better jobs (less traumatic, less hard work), and all in all we can pretty much fix anything that goes bad with our bodies.
Of course this all depends on where you live, but here in the US, this hypothesis you have, is true.

Medical advances mostly. In the old days, people died from common diseases and they are either very treatable now or dont really exist.
