I do not like this time of the year because I get too bombarded by people's emotions and fakery. Does anyone know how to protect your Self from the psychic sesspool while still being in-tune with people? I can disconnect, but it's like functioning on auto pilot. I just go through the motions and I fail to pay attention to anyone or anything too deeply. I've been dealing with this since I was a kid, being able to see through people and read them. I've never learned how to turn it off.

Everyone has this facility to one degree or another. In fact, I dare say that very nearly 100% of children have empathic abilities but it is socialized out of them. In your case, "empathy" was hard to put down! Here is what I suggest you do.

Before you exit the safety of your home, take a moment to sit down and clear whatever negative energy might be residing in you. Anything that you might have inadvertently "picked up." To do this, visualize white light spinning down towards your head. As it spins, have it move in a counter clockwise motion. Make it spin down through the top of your head, moving through and around your entire body. Once the light has completed its course, let it continue to spin right into the earth. Once finished, whatever negative energy that might have attached itself to you will be buried in the earth. Then...

With a new ball of white light, have it spin from the bottom of your feet only this time have it moving in a clockwise motion. Do the exact same thing. Have it spin clockwise right through your total body while keeping a layer of it as an exterior protection. The result will be, nothing that is not in sync with you will not be allowed in.

We are all energetic beings living in an energetic environment. As the universe works on the principal of like attracting like, whatever energy you project will attract energy in kind. This allows you to keep "in-tune" but creates an energetic template that bounces anything negative back towards the sender. It will not directly impact you.

For further protection, you can also add what is called "triple mirroring" to your protective energy work. So, once you've completed the white light work, you visualize mirrors with the glass "facing outward" being placed outside your exterior white layer of light. Do this three times and "anything" negative will bounce (reflect) directly back to the person or thing sending it your way.

What I find helps with the triple mirroring visualization is a particular scene from "The Matrix." It's the scene where Neo has been given the pill to release himself from the matrix. Suddenly the mirror that is beside him becomes liquid and beings to move up his fingers, over his hand and onto his arm. Again. The reflective layer of the liquid mirror is facing outward. I find this visualization to be equally effective and a quicker means of protectively mirroring yourself.

When you become more skilled at this, you can also start working with specific color bands. Surrounding yourself with a light blue is very healing. Red will illicit creative passion. Green will create good fortune and growth. The point being, whatever you energetically create internally and externally will attract energy in kind.

This is a marvelous tool for both attraction and protection. You may need a specific thing or event to come into your life. In this case, surrounding yourself with the like energy will aid in attracting what you need. It will also protect you from anything that might undermine that need. Consequently, you are both aided in your quest and protected at the same time. But for pure protection, use the white light exercise and the triple mirroring for full effect.

I hope this helps. Like you, I know what it is like to be bombarded.

I don't know! What an interesting question. You might get more "professional" advice in the psychology section.

I wonder what bothers you - the "emotions" or the "fakery". I suspect it's just the fakery. If that's the case, I'd try to stay away from a lot of shopping malls, office parties - places where the fakery and commercialism of Christmas is more intense. If you stick to "genuine" events with family and friends, it might help make the season more pleasant for you.

1. This bill wouldn't give the President the power to "shut down the Internet", just the portion of the network located within the US. 2. This is the most effective way we currently have of preventing a sophisticated, coordinated Cyber-terrorism attack on our network infrastructure. If Al Qaeda ever managed to recruit just a couple decent hackers (most Muslims suck with computers), they could potentially screw us up in a big, BIG way. Imagine all our financial records being wiped out, our communications disabled, the safety measures of our power plants over-ridden and our missile safeguards compromised... It seems like Science Fiction, but I assure you; it's completely possible. No computer or network is completely secure. Any system can be compromised. Consider this to be Star Wars Missile Defense for the Internet. I'm no fan of expansive, invasive Government; but I prefer this to Al Qaeda sending us back to the 18th Century with a couple keystrokes. And for the record, I'm not just saying this as a parrot for the Democrat Party. I would support ANY President having this power. Bush, Obama, Clinton, McCain, Palin...whoever. The President is responsible for defending the US and this is the best way we have of protecting our tech-reliant nation in the event of an emergency. EDIT: To the fellow quoting Benjamin Franklin, Ben was a smart guy, but he never foresaw anything like the Internet, nor how much we would come to depend on it. This isn't a sacrifice of rights for safety. Its just safety. Period.

I remember seeing a bumper sticker the other day that may help you. "I like your Christ. I do not like your Christmas. Your Christmas is not like your Christ."--Gandhi
This holiday has become more about capitalism and less about the true meaning of Christ. I'm not a Christian but I find myself all wrapped up in Christmas just like everyone else. We have all lost touch with the true teachings of Christ whether you are Christian or not.
Being empathic is a great thing. That is an important and necessary feeling to stay in touch with. Keep a clear head and try to find a way to truly celebrate the holiday without getting sidetracked by the BS. Good Luck!

Just empathy is good to have; just filter it and use it only when it will do you good.
Some loads are just way too heavy to carry, and too tedious to deal with. Carry only that you can carry and leave those that are too tedious
It goes like this take those people as books, some are good, some go on and on and you wonder when will it ever end, and some are boring. Take the boring books and toss them aside.
Do the same for the tedious books too.

Don't shut them off. Get either some obsidian or onyx, these should help keep you grounded and functioning. I would also say meditation and centering.

I know what you mean. All my liberal friends were completely phony and it made me sick to be in their pretend world.
I abandoned them and surrounded my self with real people.
