Last night I asked about my sons high fever and I decided to wait it out.... it broke just after he went to bed... from 103.6 to 97.9..... and throughout the night I got up to check his temp. which I had to continue giving him meds, because it kept rising...now this morning he has a fever of 102 and is now breaking out in bumps.. on his right arm it looks like big mesquito bites, and the left elbow looks like it is covered in pimples... then his legs have like mesquito bites down the back........ My question is... do you think this would be contaigous... the doc can't tell me until I take him up there in 4 hours..... and I am 3 months pregnant..... I just wonder what it could be and if it could be passed on.... Thanks!!!!

He has also has his mmr and chickpox vaccine..... and I don't think it is a rash because it seems to slowly be getting worse.. very slowly though..... like 2-3 more bumps in the last 2 hours.

Having a sick baby is no fun. You always think it is the worst. So take a deep breath mom. You are taking him to the doctors and if they are any good will be of some help. My daughter had 106 which scared the you know what out of me, she had strep throat and mono, I will not guess as it could be a number of things. Take care of yourself too. good luck

Could be Chicken Pox... could be Hives as in an allergic reaction. There are several other illnesses that manifest as a rash, or red irritated bumps. I wouldnt wait for the doctor... the ER or an Express care at a hospital would be my choice and I would go soon.

First, the chicken pox vaccine does not always prevent chicken pox. Some kids still get it, but it is not supposed to be as bad. Also, strep throat can cause a rash along with the fever. I would call your ob as soon as you find out what the rash is and ask if it puts your baby at any risk. If it is chicken pox it is contagious. If it is strep, the strep is contagious but not the rash.

Very true, what Jen said, you have already been around it.

Things are contagious when a fever is present....good luck at the doctor.

My daughter had a fever and rash ALL over her body with no itch....turned out to just be a virus...went away in a few days.

Rule of thumb - if there's a fever, he's contagious. You don't say how old he is, but by the symptoms, it sounds like either measles of chicken pox. If it is measles, and you are pregnant, then you have a serious problem - exposure to rubella during pregnancy can be very dangerous. Take him to the ER - don't wait for a Dr's appointment.

well my guess would be is that if he has had a fever of over 103 then he might have blisters. They are caused by the body breaking out because it got to hot. You should get that temp down now, and keep it down. I would have gone to the er last night.

No idea, but you have already been exposed so there isn't much you can do anyway. Your doctor will treat both your son and recommend treatment for you if necessary. Good luck.
