a band rider details everything you will need in the event of a show - this could be specific band gear, instrument accessories, sound equipment, etc (once you get bigger, you can start including food requests and such).
A stage plot is an overhead detail of how the band is set up on stage - instruments, mics, monitors, other plug-ins, anything that needs to be on stage.

RE:
what is a band rider and also what is a stage plot?
I am auditioning with a band for a concert and they entry requirements state those two, along with a demo and and artiste bio. I have no clue what a band rider and a stage plot are... and also where i can find ideas.

not sure about the stage plot, would think it's a floor plan for where everyone will stand, instruments placed etc. A rider is a list of things you require back stage, food (eg smarties with all the red ones picked out!!) and drinks etc.

All the above guys are right.
It's called a Rider because it "rides" with the contract. In my sphere it's called "tech rider" and it can state many things that are special to the show all the way to vegan catering and four bottles of evian water and a steam iron in the dressing room.
One of my favorites was the Tech Rider for Muddy Waters (no kidding) who stated the wish for "no green lights" because for a long time it was taught that green light was the best for black skin. Van Halen made a sort of notorious history when they demanded "no green M&M's" on one of their tours in the 80's.
Stage plots are rarely elaborate. Plots are almost always in "plan view" which means looking straight down, it's a sketch of your lay out. Normally all anyone want to know is how much real estate you take up. For example, some drum kits are very complicated and simply need more room to set up.

A rider is usually what the artist request for the backstage part of the event. like certain sodas,or water or what you want to eat. and these usually are given to the roadies to go and get all the stuff you requested. some are funny, like Brittany Spears has to have her dressing room made up to look like a small apt. bed,tv,curtains etc etc..

The most efficient stage plotters I have ever seen are the Japanese stagehands.
They can strike the gear and then set it back up identical to the way it was.
