If it's a big scab and you are worried about it scarring... Nesporin. Also every day, rub Vitamin E oil into it, and keep it out of the sun, if it's not in a place you can cover with sleeves or long pants, keep sunscreen on it twice a day! DON'T PICK AT IT!!!!

Well, looking on the WWW for: scabs, healing of, there is a lot of conflicting information regarding the management of scabs during healing of a skin injury.

First of all, the fact that a person forms a scab is an indication that their healing process is normal. And blood clotting or coagulation is a very complex biological process, so be glad you have a scab.

Now, it is generally accepted that keeping a scab slightly moist with something like hand lotion is the best way to manage them.

Scabs form a barrier to the contamination of an injury by providing a mixture of dried blood and plasma. It is nature's way of protecting a wound while it is healing.

Scabs can sometimes be maddening because they start to itch as healing is occurring. Try applying some hand lotion, and if it still bothers you a lot, you can buy a local anesthetic for the skin such as lidocaine. Your pharmacist can help you with that.

Try not to remove a scab unless it comes off during a shower or bath, because it is supposed to be there.

Hope this helps,

Keep the area clean and don't pick. How fast the scabs heal depends on how big they are and what caused them.

You cannot heal a scab, a scab is the body's natural bandage to cover a wound. You should never remove a scab, except on condition of infection. If you keep it clean and cover it lightly with an antibiotic cream it should do the job quite well.

Apply some antibiotic ointment [like neosporin or some generic] to the scab and cover it with a band aide or clean dressing if you can. It will heal MUCH faster. You can also apply vitamine E gel caplets topically or use aloe gel to keep it moist and help prevent scarring.
