To be honest, there's not much to choose from between the Xbox360 and the PS3. Technically speaking, although they use different hardware and software, inside, they have very simular capabilities.

Even if you are interested in Blu-Ray technology for high-definition films, you can buy a seperate Blu-Ray drive for the Xbox360 and it will still work out cheaper.

At this moment, with a year's lead on the PS3 though, I would say the Xbox360 will be the best bet (coming from a guy who has always bough Sony Consoles!!!).

Early reports suggest that the underdog Nintendo Wii may actually be better. Much better feedback on actual gameplay fun.

Hard to believe after all these years Nintendo might become relevant again, but the remote controllers look and sound like something a lot different, and apparently it's making its mark.

However, between Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, I'd say in the long run Xbox 360. I think the Playstation banked incorrectly on the Blu Ray technology carrying the day. I'm not sure that technology will end up being the winner in the techno battle, and that will make the Playstation 3 pretty worthless. Playstation has lots of bugs playing the first two version's games as well.

There is no "long run" with game consoles. There is about a 4 year lifespan. Then the next gen comes out.
