My shocks are going bad and I need to replace them how hard do you think this job will be? Will I need any special tools? Thanks

the front ones are in the struts and take a tool and experience, the rears are a little easier :)

this is not difficult
just jack up the front end, take the tires off, let the axle hang down. Loosen the shock bolts top and bottom and remove the shocks. Rachet, floor jack and jack stands are the minimum requirements.
Replace with new ones, there are many brands that will do the job. I haven't worked on an '80 mustang, I have a '65 and I had a '94 GT. Both are pretty simple to work on for these projects

Probably not hard at all. I did a set of shocks on a 4runner once, and it was probably in the top 5 easiest things I've ever done on a vehicle.

1989 mustang!! use some de-greaser or penetrating type stuff and a strong arm. the job itself is easy

very easy. buy a shop manual at parts store.
