there have been millions over the years who have died in the name of religion. They have had the honor of holding to their faith, even when threatened with death. Each of Jesus' original disciples faced death and all but one (John) were executed rather then renounce their faith. (Something they would not have done if they had know that there was no real Jesus).

Millions have given their lives to carry the love of God to people who have never heard. Whole cultures have been redeemed from ignorance, poverty, and destruction by the people of God who gave their lives to serve him. Food, medicine, clothing and other aid has been taken to those in need, sometimes at the cost of the worker's lives.

The world is a better place because of the Christians who have given everything they had to, including their lives if needed, for their religion.

Thanks of asking...

More than we will ever be able to accurately count, and it hasn't stopped.
Iraq is a prime example of current day religious massacre. The Shiites and the Sunnis both believe that killing in the name of Allah or God is not only right, but makes them holy.

Remember the Spanish Inquisition, Ivan the terrible, Bloody Mary, and the Houlocaust.

Religion is nothing but an opiate for the masses.

The only one who knows the truth is God himself, and I hope and pray one day we will know the truth. Until then, I will avoid organized religion like the plague.

Religion has caused more wars than anything else in history.

It is true that man has used religion for political gain. Nazi Germany had "God with us" engraved in German on the belts of Nazi soldiers. America said, "Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition." The law may even allow you to start the Christian Nazi Party, if you so desire. You can become a "reverend" for a few dollars through the tabloid classifieds and then further your political agenda with the world’s blessing, no matter how much it smears the name of Christ.

Jesus tells us in John 16:2,3 that there will be some who, in their error, commit atrocities and murder in the name of God: "The time is coming that whosoever kills you will think that he does God service." However, He informs us that these are not true believers: "And these things will they do to you, because they have not known the Father, nor me." (See also 1 John 3:15.)

Jesus told His followers to love their enemies. So if a man puts a knife into someone’s back in the name of Christianity, something obviously isn’t right. If we human beings can detect it, how much more will God? He will deal with it on Judgment Day.

"I know that the Lord is always on the side of right. But it is my constant anxiety and prayer that I—and this nation—should be on the Lord’s side."
-Abraham Lincoln

Well, it is estimated that as many as 6 million people may have died during the Inquisition alone, so I'd say throughout the course of history you're probably upwards of 50-75 million.

Truly just in the name of religion? Honestly not that many. There is almost always an underlining reason that usually has little to do with religion.

Like others have said, more people have died in the name of religion, or for their God, that is walking this earth now.. But, I have another question along with the question asked here.. If the Lord said "thou shall not kill" why would people kill in his name?

Often religionis used as a cover for the real greed of these people.

That being said, if people didn't revere religion so highly, how many of these murderous dictators would have lost the support of their people, and thus not been able to murder so many innocents.

well it is going to be well over 6 billion, by the time G-D is finished giving TheWhole Torah to this exact same world again refusing to repent. since every one on this planet is going to die for their religion not realy true to TheG-D WHO is forever giving TheTorah, for thousands and thousands of trying to find a true animal for Adam's mate, with three to four chances for each mate fashion showing. which means G-D has been giving TheTorah for about 20 to 27 billion years in the same 6818 year increments as always before. in this whole world of disbelief of TheG-D WHO Is Always giving TheTorah. since finding a true animal mate for Adam is G-D'S Favorite Hobby here. everyone on this planet, is more than likly going to die for not being religiously true to G-D, actualy here in TheTorah Happening. and this is this animal mate's and her grandchildren's third failure. which may be even more if your ancestry can be traced back to one of the refugee animals on the ark escape route.
