If you're serious, just let your grandfather have these delusions. With dementia, or any other debilitating neurological disorder, it's not going to get any better. Correcting him is only going to cause him stress, so try to play along - you might learn some cool things about his past.
But somehow, I think you may be kidding. :)

The nursing home and staff should be trained to deal with this problem... They have probably seen it one hundred times... You can't do Anything about his illness, it is progressive and there is no cure.
The nursing staff and doctors should know what to do and be doing it... it is not your responsibility to control his behaviour. You can't be helping him with his delusions if you are enabling him with the uniforms and such.
You are trying to make sense of his illness, you can't ... Face it, this is who he is now...
Having him in a nursing home is the best thing for him and you are paying for his care.. they should be giving it.. If he is violent there are drugs to sedate him that the staff could use. It should be up to the physician in charge to use whatever meds are necessary... It is a professional call.. You need to relax a little and let them do their job.... If you need to take a little hiatus from him for a week or so, it is okay... You are probably beating yourself up and maybe you need to recharge your batteries...

I'm really sorry about your situation. My uncle fought in a war, and he had stuff like this going on in his mind continually. They finally gave him medication, and now he is normal and fine. Ask the nursing home about meds, and talk to some more professionals. Talk to him about it, as best you can. (I know it's hard because he doesn't think he is in 2006 America.) But yes, I would definitly check into meds.

Seems you don't understand what Veterans went through. It's a shame that after all he went through that this happens to him. You need to find a nursing home that specializes in dementa. They can take care of him. Of course would be better if his family took care of him instead of a nursing home having too.

It sounds to me like Grandpa is having a hell of a good time. He's not doing any real harm .from what you say, and it's gotta be a hoot for him and the other old geezers.
Just let him be, A second childhood is nothing to be wasted. Not everyone is so fortunate.

If all this is true, then your grandfather doesnt need to be in a nursing home, he needs to be in a mental institudtion where he can be properly cared for.

Send him to Iraq. Look, it's obvious you're joking. If not, sit back and enjoy this natural stage of life.
