Since I was a child I was afraid of dying. As I got older this problem started to go away. But once I started to watch the news and constantly here about people getting killed and watching a TV show called Law & Order, which is based on true events on people who have been killed, and since I moved out with my boyfriend, I have been really afraid of my death and his death too.

I wonder if I should see a Psychiatrist?

I appreciate everyone's opinions.
Thank you,
Mari...

I am a 25yr old female and from NYC. When I was a child I was afraid of death. As I grew older I didn't have this problem anymore. But 5 months ago, a close friend of mine's mom passed away. My friend is my age and her mom is my mom's age, so I could really relate to her pain. My friend was devastated and I witnessed most of her pain and suffering. A few months later my uncle passed away. and as a watch the news of all the killings going on, and the fact that I am not working and now living w/ my boyfriend and stay home the whole day I start to worry and at times when I see the news I have a hard time going to sleep at night because I’m afraid something bad (including death) happening to me or my boyfriend. I try not to think about it but sometimes it's hard for me.

Yes you should. I have been that way since I was a child also, but it got worse after 9/11. I live in NYC and was in the area when it happen, so my fear multiplied. I spoke with a doctor and she actually made me feel like I wasn't crazy and put everything into perspective. Also, showed me how to look at the news in a new light. You don't have to even go for a long time.I had about 3 sessions and felt much better. Hope this helped!

I have the same fears. Death (the unknown) is a very scarey thing. The last thought before I go to bed everynight is what if someone breaks into my house and hurts me or my family. That problem got solved by getting a puppy for x-mas this year so she'll make a good guard dog. Nothing can protect you though from your own thoughts. Only you can. I would stop watching the news to start and yes I would talk with someone too. You aren't alone with these thoughts and fears but you should get them dealt with so they aren't so over whelming. Good luck.

The things is we all will die but how we die is out of are hands so we just do the best that we can and we do not even think about it but what you can do is make the best out of your life and the people in your life make them happy and yourself and live your life to the fullest and when the time is to be yours to leave this world make sure you have left a great mark on this world that people will remember you and they will miss you and then you have done your deed in life Rather in is with your family or being a part of some thing church fund rising so many things stop worrying about it and enjoy what god has given you Life.

Well, supposely you should not watch news broadcasting before you fall asleep because the stress they cause may develope into insomnia. I don't think this is a reason to seek fro professional help, experts in the field of good and restful sleeping advise that you should watch a comedy show because this will provide a relax mood soon enough to fall asleep. They advise also to avoid watching news broadcasts, action / mistery / terror tv series because they will only stress you more and restless sleep is likely to occur.

Where did this fear first come from when you were a child? Do you remember?

It could be related to something traumatic which led to a phobia.

Yes, you should see a psychiatrist. Also be ready for some stupid, no wait... STOOPID answers from idiots seeking to raise their rating on Yahoo Answers

The cost of psychiatrists and psychologists are outrageous. I would go to a clinical social worker who has some experience with phobias. Phobias are frequently treated with Paxil, and most clinical social workers would be able to assess your situation to determine if medication is necessary.

Yes, please see a psychiatrist. You need help finding out what happened to you as a child that has made you so phobic of dying that it's interfering with your day-to-day life.
