From the days of chamber pots my friend, most people kept them under the bed, but if you forgot to put it away and stepped in it, OH BOY!

This comes from ancient times when they lived in tree houses life the swiss family robinson. They had no walls and they were about 50ft in the air....the beds were all on the edge of the platforms that served as their bedrooms. So when one got up on the wrong side of the bed they would bounce down the tree branches approx. 50ft.....or 15.24m for those who lived in canada...well needless to say they were somewhat upset after falling and breaking numerous bones, so people would just look at them and say, "wow you must've woken up on the wrong side of the bed."

It's a naval thing, dating back to when hammocks were slung in the lower decks. You had to get out of the hammock the same way, if you did not you could end up standing on someone else, who would then 'politely point out that you had got out the wrong side and in dooing so bumped into them' - a bad start to the day !!!!

definite. In my case the excellent side of the mattress is the incorrect side of the mattress as there's a small oriental rug on the port side of the mattress; So, if i'm getting out of the excellent side of the mattress, that's the incorrect side of the mattress, my tootsies touch the chilly bare floor, and that makes me un-mutual.

Arbitrary Attribution? It implies a person is just intrinsically irritable, without any legitimate, discernible reason.
