I was wondering if anyone can tell me about jaw surgery and chin realignment as I am getting ready to go in for my lower jaw to be broken and lined up with my teeth which will make my chin go out to far so now they are doing a chin realignment also... Any advise?

Make sure they knock you out! If I was you I would want to know as little as possible beforehand. All I would want to know is that I would be so far out of it I wouldn't care or feel a thing! Good Luck with that. My husband has screws in his jaw from a fight he got in and broke it. I saw them on his xray recently when he went to have a tooth pulled.

This operation is common in Malocclusion (Bad Bite). It is an imperfected meshing of upper and lower teeth causing contact between grinding surfaces to be poor.

There are two main categories of surgeries that are done for the chin, depending on whether the person has a bite problem or not. If it is simply a cosmetic problem, a chin implant or reduction can work adequately.

But in any case, the preferred treatment is: In the process of repairing the dental alignment, the chin will be rotated into the proper position as well. This procedure, From the side view, the chin should extend out to the lower lip and reach a line drawn through the forehead, base of nose, and mouth, in addition to giving you A strong jaw line.

As for the Corrective Jaw Surgery, If you will need to prepare for an over night stay, ask your doctor. Or, if you have any other questions regarding YOUR surgey, ask your doctor or surgeon for more information.

Hope this answers your question!
