i often struggle with being nervous myself. when i find myself feeling overwhelmed i pull back and evaluate what is going on in my life. is what i am really stressing over worth it?
if you find your life being controlled by stress try talking to your doctor. there could be a biological reason for your stress.

You need to find out why you are nervous, and what triggers the feeling. They might be the same thing, or they may not. For example, if you are afraid of being hurt, that feeling may be triggered by feeling vulnerable.
Don't feel ashamed if it seems irrational. One day, my daughter invited me to go have a facial massage at the beauty parlor she goes to. While I had a facial massage, she was getting a pedicure. I began to be very afraid & agitated. Afterwards I figured out why: I was unable to see (the masseuse covered my eyes with a towel), my head hurt (the pillow was uncomfortable), I didn't know what was going on (the masseuse didn't explain anything ahead of time & didn't talk to me during any of it), I was surrounded by strangers, and I couldn't move (I was instructed to be quiet & lie still). Well, goodness, most people would find those circumstances unsettling.
...you will need to get a thorough exam, both physical and mental. Sometimes a medication or even a common food additive (like aspartame) can cause unexpected reactions. Prepare to answer questions, like do you take caffeine tablets? Describe your sleep patterns. Have you experienced any trauma or losses during the past 2 years ? When is the nervousness worst ? Is your appetite affected? what helps you to feel calmer?
It may be hard , but it will be worth the work. It really will.
Now, this part is sad: not everyone will understand. Sometimes, the people you thought would be supportive, turn away. That doesn't mean you aren't worth helping !!! It only shows that they feel inadequate to help, or they really don't want to do something wrong & thus make things worse for you. Cut them a little slack, and cut yourself a LOT of slack. The professionals will help you figure out what will help you. It may take time, but it really is worth it.

Take a Yoga class. It helped me a lot. In one class I was completely and totally relaxed and I realized that I had never felt that relaxed before. It was an awesome feeling. When you are stressed, sit back and think, breathe up to your collar bone, exhale down to your stomach. Your stress and nervousness will be gone!

I would suggest you find a good musical CD and play it when you start feeling nervous and find something that will occupy your mind even if it is exercising or cleaning the house .... That is what I do and it helps a lot.

No, smoking (anything) won't help with your nervousness. Only you can do something about that.
Why are you nervous? You need to find out and to do that you need professional help. Nothing else will help and smoking, drugs and drinking will only make it much worse.
