You multiply the length times the height which in this case is the depth x width and you will get square feet. If your room really is 13'2" x 7'8" then you would have approximately 104square feet of floor space in that room.
p.s. there is no need to convert anything to inches like the previous posters said. If you are buying carpet just buy a little extra to make sure you have enough. Also there is no way in this universe that your room is 1100 square feet. :D

You can convert to inches as previously shown, multiply, then divide answer by 144.
Or you can convert to decimals and multiply: 13.17 x 7.67 = 101 square feet.
For flooring remember to factor in waste, which will vary by product and can be found on labels or brochures. And remember that some flooring, such as carpet and vinyl are only available in certain widths, such as 12 ft being the standard for carpet, though some is available in 15 ft widths.
So, if you were going to carpet the room with a 12 ft wide roll you would need 14 ft long x 12 ft wide = 168 sq ft

That would work out to 101 sq ft.
If you're buying carpeting, many manufacturers produce their rolls in 12 foot widths. If you want to finish the area unseamed then you would have to get a 14 foot length or 168 sq feet.
If you are using a resilient flooring (Ceramic, laminate or Hardwood) then usually allow for 10% for cuts and get 110 sq ft. If you're laying resilient diagonally or in a diamond pattern then allow 20% for wastage.
Hope that helps.

You can't take the square root of an area. If you are looking for the area in sq. meters, just convert the inches to meters and multiply the two together.

If the room is square or rectangular, with no odd corners or cut outs, then just multiply length times width in feet. If it has other cut outs or anything, you need to calculate it in squares/rectangles for each area and add the sum. For your example, it is
158 inches * 92 inches =14536 square inches
/12=square feet -- 1211.33 square feet.
