When i was put in a police van I didn't have no seatbelt and they were driving really badly and I kept almost falling off the bench (cos technically that was what I was sitting on) and the police officer kept pushing me back on to my seat and I would then bang my head on the side of the van. I was only 13 at the time and had only been shoplifting. I think they treated me and my friends a bit harshly!!

In Pennsylvania, you can only be fined for not wearing a seat belt if your's also charged with another crime, but in Maryland you can be arrested just for not wearing a seat belt. So I guess if you've been put in the back of a police van you're being charged with a crime, so I guess you'd have to wear a seat belt in either case to avoid another charge!

Ha! No, no seat belt. Just like no seat belt in the back of a Police car either. The cops arent THAT concerned for your safety!

Would you risk putting a belt on some of these idiots that find themselves in this position in the first place?

If your handcuffed in the back of the van and if there are seatbelts, the cops have to put the seatbelt on for you. if there are'nt any to put on, then they are responsible for your well being in the back.
