I found a lump in the side of my neck, maybe an half inch size a bit above my collarbone. I also had a cold that I caught from my kids with swollen glands. This is when I noticed this enlarged lump. Two weeks ago, I was having vertigo dizziness problems for a couple of weeks but that went away. I also found cyst like spots on my cervix. But my pap smear came back fine. Going to check that out friday. I went to my regular doctor today for lump in neck. He felt it, said it was mobile. It was a tiny bit tender. He said we will watch it for a couple of weeks to see if it goes down. He also did blood work to check for lymphoma. Should he have given me antibiotics? He did not. I will be checking out the cervix issue Friday. I am really scared. Mother of two kids, I am 36....I am just wondering if he should have done more or given me antibiotics??? Help!

unless he was sure you had an infection there was no need for an antibiotic. The lymphoma test results are important. Stay on top of the results and if you find yourself showing signs of an infection, usually fever is the best indicator, or if you see an obvious area where fluid is building up within a limb, then call your doctor ASAP and get an appointment.
Keep your body well hydrated and eat a healthy diet with exercise to keep things moving.

I would be worried also and it wouldn't hurt to have another opinion but with you age I was thinking it could be some thing else but you would be out of range for that. But you say it hurts then that is a good sign also cancer most of the time doesn't hurt that is way it can go so long because we don't know it is there. Try the pills for a week and see what happens. I would like to hear what happens stay in touch. I will be thinking about you. I am not a doctor at all but I am do have a ear to talk too. Andy

It sounds like both of your doctors are taking necessary steps to find out what is going on with you. If he doesn't know what the lump is, NO, he should not just give you antibiotics.
The overuse of antibiotics have made bacteria and other illnesses immune to treatment. If you're not having other major problems, just try to be patient with the testing. If you still feel you don't have the correct answers after you hear from your doctors, get a second opinion.
Not everything is cancer, though.

If your lymphnode is tender it's a sign that your fighting off an infection (recent colds/sickness; vaginal disorders). I have a 2 inch lymphnode that has been this size for 6 years. If the node never decreases after about a month after all your infections got treated than get it checked out (possibly biopsied). Your lymphnode can swell even if it's a viral infection thus antibiotics would be useless to take. Just make sure you get all your issues resolved first than worry about the lymphnode if it is still swollen.
You can research on webmd...

Lots of times, they will try a course of antibiotics and see if it affects the swelling of the lymph node. My doctor tried that. He did blood tests too. But we did not know I had Lymphoma until a fine needle aspiration [biopsy] was done.
Check this site for info:

There are many other things it can be, so try not to get alarmed. And, there are great treatments out there if it is something bad.
Best wishes

ok so you are in a tight spot, and you definatly need to see a doctor because lumps can be life threatning. The sooner illness is caught the better the chances of recovery. Is you life not worth a few dollars? I dont think it has anything to do with dental work.

no he is doing the right thing. those kinds of lumps are extremely common and really are nothing to worry about. i can't really see any good that would come from antibiotics. its not an infection so they would do no good. just wait a while and you should be fine.
