The law has had its teeth pulled by do-gooding wooly-headed liberals who think that a slap on the wrist will suddenly make these people pillars of the community. We have to make the government toughen up and ignore these minorities.

I too saw this item and along with others I saw Loose Women.
(At 83 I am beginning to understand them a little.)
All hell broke loose when discussing child correction and all of them objected to slapping the back of the hand and all agreed only the child's mother can be allowed to speak harshly to them.
Spoilt and cosseted they grow what they are. Spoilt.
The poor kids in poor and rough areas do not enjoy this kind of life but they do see that other kids do.
In such areas these poor kids are as frightened as anyone else and for protection they form gangs.
With no one at home and no one interested in them they develop their own culture. Hurt or be hurt. Fight or submit.
Now you create a life style that leads to one place. Prison.
It is no good blaming these children as they have never had a childhood to start with.
There is nothing more demoralising than living in Tower Blocks if you don't believe me try it.
If you think otherwise live there on their income and in their environment for a year and you will be judged as they are.
By their address and Postal Code.
You are doomed before you start unless you are strong enough to make it.
The police are not responsible for picking up the failures of humanity. It's bad enough having to cope with the outcome.
No I was not a copper.

I agree. There was someone else on tv last night, she looked about 20 years old. She had been arrested 50 times. I said at the time what on earth was a judge thinking by letting her walk after time number 10
How much behaviour does it take before some do-gooder legal phsyco-babbler realises that this person is not learning or going to change unless they are taught a lesson.

It's sad,the way these thugs can go on living their lives, when their victims aren't.
It's no wonder they do it for kicks, when they are handled with kid gloves.
The problem is too many do-gooders have literally spoilt the broth, and the general public are the ones to suffer, because of these thugs still on our streets.
As always the victims suffer, while those who commit the crimes just laugh in the faces of those in authority.
If we go back to the late 70's early 80's,there was nothing like this.Incidents were always dealt with,in a firm and professional manner
Kids these days just don't care, and they certainly closed of there minds (IF THEY'VE GOT ANY),towards the consequences of there actions.
It is getting to the stage, where every body is going to be too afraid to go out.

So much for our great leader Mr. Blair being tough on crime.
The whole thing is beyond a joke.
Telling a mugger that he is naughty and getting them to say sorry is not a suitable punishment even as a first offence.
Until the punishment fits the crime this country will never advance culturally

Bring back national service or perhaps a little humiliation in their local area (supervised) cleaning chewing gum or cigarette butts form the street, scrubbing out loos so clean you could eat off the floor of course no doubt this would be against someones human rights but surely does the victim not count anymore. Yes, I think I will join you!

I agree completely.
I stole a plastic ring from a toy shop when I was about 8. I think it cost 5p (this is going back a few years). When my mum realised what I had done she dragged me back to the shop, made me explain to the man in the shop what I had done and I had to apologise. I was so humiliated that I never set foot back in that shop again, and certainly haven't dared steal anything since.
The problem now is that for a lot of kids there are no real consequences to their bad behaviour, so it continues.
Note to parents - kids need to be punished sometimes.
Note to over-lenient judges - er, hello!!!???

You're spot on. I heard someone on the radio today making excuses for these people 'its all due to poverty'. Absolute b*ll*cks. These people have decided its easier to go out mugging people than getting a job like the rest of us. They just stick two fingers up to me and you and think we are mugs.

The police should spend less time arresting people with minor mental illnesses and stop allowing 'no go' areas to exist.
DWB is still a major area of crime in the UK; bullying of black people by the police must cease.
