I have 3 daughters a son and a husband. We all found out we had head lice a month ago. My son and husband shaved their heads and my daughters cut over 5 inches off of their hair each and I cut 14 inches off of mine. I treated everyone with Rid and picked nits for hours and hours. I cleaned the house and did all the laundry. I did the second treatment 7 days later and in another week they were back. I did it again. The whole thing all over again. And again they are back. I have spent over $200 doing this and yet we still have lice. I don't know what to do. My daughters are all missing school and this is breaking me financially. I have gone through this before succesfully so I don't know what I am doing wrong. I am going to lose my mind here. I can't shave their heads becuase they are girls in middle school. Any real advice would help. Please.

Go to the store and buy NIX - It's a Cream Rinse - comes with a fine comb - follow the instructions. My daughter had this and I took her to the doctor 2 times - and he prescribed a shampoo but it didn't work - all that worked was NIX. My daughter's hair is is very long and very thick - but NIX worked. Try it.

hi, i will tell you my own experience and it worked first using the rid and this kind of stuff will not stop the hair lice because if you killed the mother you still have eggs in the hair o here is what you do step by step,
fill your bathtob we the banio with a hot water just make sure that it doesnt burn the skin then let your daughters lean on the back and put their hair in the hot water untill it reaches the sculp to make sure that there is no way for the lice to hide and keep them in the water for 15 to 20 and may be more if they can do it, while the hair in in the water brush it whith a very tinyyyy brush which is specially designed to catch the lice while brushing. when you brush their hair in water you will find the lice is flowing dead in the water because lice cant take hot warm hot steamy water. after you make sure you brushed the hair very well you gatta make sure that there is noooooooo eggs in the hair so you must bring the sheep hair because sheep's hair is the best way to catch the eggs and but the sheep's hair in the bruch and start brushing your daughters hair with it and do this all over again 3 times a weeks to make sure they will not get any more lice again. after that try to use hair dryer allways after bathing use it every time you are going to style your hair because hair dryer kills the lice because of the heat in it. and good luck.

Do you have any pets at home? Pets can carry head lice too. I too had the same problem years ago when my children were still in school. There is a product that we had to use on the dog and it is called Adam's Flea mist. This dropped the Lice right off the dog...DEAD! It is not recommended to use on children, but it works killing those little boogers.

Get big trash bags & remove "everything" from the childrens rooms tie the bags up & put in garage for a week.Make sure You put the bed pillows in dry on high heat!
Vaccume (put a new bag in the lice can hatch in the bag & jump out) the house & car,Wash their bookbags or spray w/Rit spray.
Get a huge bottle of Cetaphil (its a skin cleanser) from drug store. Put it in everyones hair a good thick amount, while hair is damp, wrap hair in shower cap or let air dry for 8 hours, rinse out. This sufficates the lice. It worked for my son. I really feel for you it drives me crazy,I dont get it but my head still itches anyway

The opposite of what someone said previously is true. Lice like clean hair. And anyone can get them. They jump from person to person when they are in close contact to one another. A product called RID is the most effective and is available at almost any super market or drug store.
