Yes there is, but not at the level you my think of. There are military service people that claim gang affiliation. I know I was an MP at Ft Bragg for 5 years 94-99. (118th mp co (abn) and 108th mp co (aaslt) ) I personally stopped a vehicle that had "crippin ain't easy" painted on a license plate he was an E-6!! so there are some idiots in there plus you have spring lake and Fayette -Nam to contend with. Not to mention all the other thug wanna be's. The Army has an active gang unit that deals with this problem. Only problem is that it's not the MP's doing it, it's the MI or post commander that assigns a task force.. we had one but it was disbanded because it was deemed a waste of man power. and if a solider off duty wore gang colors we could press the issue because they were allowed to wear the color of clothing they desired.. thanks Clinton for that one! But rest assured that they know and do watch them.. Have fun at Bragg the ole Iron Mike I said hi over by the circles.

Typically what is considered to be a 'gang problem' in the military does not even reach the notice of the civilian cops.
Military bases are places where the MPs get 911 calls about stray cats.

My son in law serves there and they're trying to live on base. They're on waiting list. I think it is probably safer there then some of the other areas of town.
There are more advantages to living on base. If you're sharing a vehicle, you can find a job on base, take classes and be more connected with the other families there.
You do have to be very careful in town but I do think this is true of any town by a military base. It brings out the best along with the worse.
The worse that has happened to them is harassment by a few sargents who got in trouble for it and now are in Iraq. Good luck!

seems that there are some contained in the Marine Corps. A court-martial purely wrapped up in Okinawa. An MA2 assigned to Naval activities at White coastline became convicted of soliciting a Marine Sergeant to kill the girlfriend of that female sailor. The Marine became a "Crips Lord" and became the god son of "Tookie" Williams who began the Crips gang.

If its true, I'm sure the MP corps knows it, and they don't follow the same rules as civilian cops with issues like these.
