The Bible does say, "Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands, as to the Lord," but it also instructs, "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it" (Ephesians 5:22,25). A man who under-stands that Jesus Christ sacrificed His life’s blood for the Church will likewise love his wife sacrificially and passionately. He will honor her, respect her, protect, love, and cherish her as much as he does his own body, as he is instructed to do (Ephesians 5:28). He will never say or do anything to harm or demean her. It is in this atmosphere of love and security that a godly wife willingly submits herself to the protective arms of her husband. She does this not because he is better than she is, but simply because this is God’s order for His creation.

A godless world rejects the God-given formula to make marriage work. It thinks it knows best, and suffers the heartbreaking consequences of destroyed marriages and ruined lives. The Christian ideal of marriage is not one of an authoritarian and chauvinistic male holding his cringing wife in submission like an obedient dog. It’s the very opposite. While most of the great religions treat women as inferior to men, the Bible gives them a place of dignity, honor, and unspeakable worth, expressed so evidently in Proverbs 31.

Just because he thinks she's the one- if she doesn't like him back it's probably not God's will just his. He should be praying Matthew 6:10 10 "your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." Which means that od's will might be different than his. The world tries to say who should be the dating partner and can try and force the issue but the Bible says Romans 12:2
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." So the guy tested by asking the girl and the girl said no-easy answer-it wasn't God's will-need to move on.

There are many scriptures in the Bible as you can see, but my advice is to tell your friend to pray about it. I once thought that I was in love and I prayed about it and God removed that person from my life, I am now happily married to the love of my life and if it were not for prayer I would be in a huge mess with someone that is not my mate. Remember that you should not try to decide on the person that you are to marry yourself but fully rely on God and know that if you force yourself to be with someone that you are not meant to be with then you are keeping someone else from being with who they are supposed to be with!

Stay friends, unless he's a phony.

If he's just in the relationship expecting to "get something" he isn't that good a Christian in my eyes and he isn't that good of man in most peoples eyes.

Not complex. He should be what he is (a friend) and keep from lies (self-deception of something more). He is learning patience and obedience now.
