Just one tooth, that's been sensitive ever since I got a filling in it. It's not terribly painful, just teribly annoying.

I do use sensodyne, and I do remember the dentist mentioning the possiblity of putting a cap on it. Would that help?

Any other suggestions?

Capping the tooth may help, as it will cover any nerve endings that are being exposed. You could also ask them for a fouride based mouth wash, which may help reduce sensitivity.

Recently filled teeth can remain sensitive for up to a week simply because the tooth has been worked on and the nerve can become irritated, however if sensitivity persists you may have a high spot on the filling which would need a simple adjust by your Dentist to rectify the problem.

I think we all have a tooth or two like that sensitive one of which you spoke. They hit and run sometimes, don't they? If your dentist gaurantees it, get the cap. If not and the pain continues to be just "not teribly bad", buck up and take it. A cap can be expensive and sometimes not the answer at all.

The tooth will probably be sensitive for awhile after a filling. My dentist recommended sensodine and a special mouthwash. I use ACT Restoring Mouthwash, and it seems to help.

My uncle microwaves ice cream to take the edge off. However, if it were me, I would go to the dentist and tell him to fix it...he didn't get the filling on right.
You shouldn't have that problem with fillings that are done right. Oh, and you shouldn't have to pay to get it redone.
