I am currently doing an outreach program and we are giving out clothing (and other items).
The program is called "Not Forgotten" because we want those in need to feel as though they are not forgotten in everyday life. We are gathering items together, obtaining names of those in need, organizing boxes of items for those we have contacted, and delivering them about 3-6 times a year. We are trying to let people know that they are cared about.
Along with a box of items, we will try to talk to the parents of the family or adults that we reach in the program. We want to let the adults know that they are not alone in their struggle for money and food for themselves or their families. Each family will receive a Bible and contact information for a church near them that is willing to pick them up or pray for them, etc. We will keep in contact with the family and deliver a new box of items whenever necessary.
I think this is just about all I can think of about the program. If you have any specific questions, you can ask me anytime.
You could try and see if there's a program like this in your community, start your own, or donate to this one...Just let me know if you need any help!

Local churches often collect clothes for the needy, and give items away rather than sell them. I have a co worker who donated furniture to the Salvation Army recently, and they refused to take 1/3 of the items she had- they told her bluntlly- "we'll never be able to SELL it". They sell the donated stuff in shops and then use the money to fund different programs. They should take everything, sell what they can, and donate what they can't sell- but they can't be bothered. Not very charitable.

The Salvation Army and the Goodwill sell clothes cheap. They take the profits and give needy people a job, also feed the needy. They do not commercialize. Do not be afraid to donate to them.

Contact a local church (or your own if you have one). Many have homeless ministries and I am sure they would appreciate the donation of clothing that they could give to those who really are in need of a helping hand.

It is kind of you to want to assist the underpaid. Some places for Free Clothes are Homeless Shelters and abused women shelters, and soup kitchens. I look foward to the day when their is no need for handme down clothes.
100% of the need to 100% of those in need. The poor are merely Underpaid. When 65% of all american poor are the "Working Poor" We are underpaying our employees.
Right now Bless you for wanting to help.

try going to your local churches, homeless shelters, some hospitals take clothes to give to the homeless when they come in, or the bigger children hospitals where the family stays for weeks a lot of times they need extra clothes for the kids and family's, you can try that or they might know of a place. anyway good idea and good luck

Contact your local woman's shelter, they usually distribute the clothing to the women and children that have fled their homes without clothing. Also, contact the homeless shelter in your area. Another resource is the RedCross, contact them.
Thats a nice thing you are doing, and Karma will reward you. ºoº

Try a local shelter. Some have "clothing banks" that are free to the needy. Also try your local churches. You're so sweet! BOL

Check out Yahoo Groups and look for a "Freecycle" group in your area. Its a site where people exchange anything and everything that they don't want anymore for FREE....just post an "offer" and if someone is interested they will email you back

Go to your local soup kitchen, or homeless shelter. If you want to find people who are in need, those would be the best places to check.
