I work in a busy ER where our medication, nourishment, lockers, and bathroom doors are all extremely heavy and in a shift we are in and out of these areas >20 times, often carrying charts, IV and blood trays, medications, food and supplies. I strained my back a few days ago during a 12hr shift because of this and need some info. Thanks.

In general, OSHA (Occupational Safety and Hazard Administration) does not require specific door weight unless is a handicapped entrance/exit. But this also varies with each state. I suggest you contact the OSHA in your state and they can provide you with specific answers.

oh i am sorry for you - i happened to have strained back too and i too hate those heavy doors - especially where you would least expect the doors to be heavy - and i too am not able to grasp what is the purpose of such heavy doors.

yes, in hospitals i see not only exhausted staff, but also elderly and sick people and kids wrestle with such doors all the time. WHY, OH WHY?? doors are meant for opening and closing and locking and not for bodybuilding or smashing noses or teeth!

at least in our country there is no limit and no end to it!
