The first thing I would do is make sure that my child knew that he/she did nothing wrong, and that I still love them. I would apologize to my child for not stopping the abuse. I would then consider my child's well being. I would make sure that my child would not be harmed by my filing charges against the person who abused my child. I would warn everyone that I knew to watch out for the abuser. I would make sure that my child was never abused by that person again.

Contact the police immediately. Then I would have
my child checked by my doctor and then I would get my child into therapy by someone who has training
with child abuse victims. Finally, I would work with the D.A. and push for the maxinum sentencing
the law allows. Stand by your child with all the love and support you can provide. Finally, get some
counseling for yourself so you can heal as well.
I am sorry this has happened to your child and your family.

Never associate with that friend again - in fact, you should have them arrested and I hope you do. If you don't stay away from them, then you really don't love your child that much. Also, consider getting that child counseling because they're probably emotionally scarred. And next time, be more observant and make sure that your child is never put in that situation again.

If the child has spoken to you about this then you should contact the police straight away. Then will then pass you on to the necessary agencies (social services) and yes you can demand that you name not be used.

What I would want to do is go kick that son of a "guns" butt until they couldn't get back up.

What I ought to do is call the police immediately and let them handle it.
