I say a gift card for them, either a mall card or a visa or American express gift card, this way its generic and they can use it on themselves. Maybe attach the card to box of candy, cookies, or even a poinsettia plant.

Definitely gift cards to a grocery store or Walmart. Even $10 is helpful!!
My aunt was a kindergarten teacher for many years. She had so many candles, picture frames, magnets, paperweights and other well meaning gifts that she had no clue what to do with them all.
Have you thought about asking your daycare to organize a "caregiver fund?" This means that all parents who want to can contribute in whatever amount they can afford. Then the dollars are divided up equally between all workers in the daycare. It's easy, and usually can be a significant amount.

Since daycare teachers usually don't have to buy anything like school teachers do--I am getting my caregivers glass Christmas ornaments and cookies. You can buy nice glass ornaments at the dollar store--they look like $7 ornaments. Also-I try to send something about every other month or so that all the teachers can share (not just my son's teachers) like cookies, brownies or donuts. It never hurts to be nice to your child's future caregivers!
Happy Holidays!

First off, how nice to even consider buying your child care providers a gift.
Buy them things they can use.... gift cards to teachers supply stores. A lot of teachers have to buy these little things out of pocket so it may be appreciated.
Or, maybe a fifth of whiskey. Having to deal with kids all day, they may need a good bender!!
Either way, it's a very nice thought. More people should be like you!!

That's so sweet! Last year we gave our some of our children's providers gourmet brownie mix with a cute little oven mitt and others, gift certificates for like $10 to Target and Borders.
They all seemed to appreciate the thought. If you don't have much money, make them homemade pumpkin bread, holiday cookies, etc.

Give them gift cards to local restaurants or the movies. They don't make very much money and probably don't get to splurge on entertainment very often. (I don't think Daycare teachers have to purchase their own school supplies like school teachers sometimes do.)

my mom is a kindergarten teacher and she enjoys simply getting fruit, and simple things like teacher pins. If you go to a craft store they have pins that say teacher and stuff on them. Although she is a daycare teacher, I am not sure if she/he would like it. But fruit baskets are always great.

Gift certificates for a store where they can buy things for themselves.
Daycare teachers do not make a lot of money. Give them something for them---not for the classroom.

i give my day care provider a tree ornament for the daycare tree that represents something from the year or made me think of them. along with that, i give her a bonus on her check. i don't like gift cards because that limits where they can shop. cash always works.

For Christmas, I usually got them a small gift (like a candle, tin of popcorn, ornament, or chocolates) to go along with a gift card. It doesn't have to be anything big - just the thought alone will be appreciated! On the flip side, our child-care provider always made ornaments with my children's pictures on them - one year a cd decorated to look like Santa's head with their picture in the middle, another year a bulb with festive decorations and their picture adhered to it, etc. What fun to remember each year as we put them on the tree!
