When communicating with people I do not know, and am ignorant of their "spiritual" philosophies, I will type something about a problem they've mentioned. I will say, I pray, or wish, (which ever you prefer) that ----you will get strength (or what ever is appropriate to their problem). The point being, If prayer offends them, perhaps they will be comfortable with the word wish.
What do you guys think?

I am not sure. I had the same feeling. I felt that if I told someone that I would pray for them that they would be offended. It seems to me that some on this site are very critical and hyper-sensitive and not at all tolerant. I won't be around for long and I just wanted to spread some good news.

As an atheist, I think I'd prefer something more like, "well, can I do something to help you, even if just to offer an ear or shoulder?" Even if you really can't do anything, you can at least still be a way for someone to vent off the pain or frustration they're facing, and that's often a big help in and of itself.

I don't take offense if someone says they'll pray or wish or keep me in their thoughts, but I'd rather they DO something than hope for a god or luck to do something.

Aren't we all struggling with being Politically Correct, nowadays, ma'am?

I do appreciate where you're coming from, ma'am. My sympathies. I'm often in that position, ma'am.

I try to tell the Truth, as I know it, and add that I'm not the expert ... but then, I get the feeling that people are looking to whether you're on their "side" or the "other"!?

And, I'm on neither.

Have a nice day.

If they are offended at prayer that's their problem, not yours.

Continue to pray for them. It isn't necessary that you tell them you are going to pray for them.

sounds reasonable as you are trying to extend empathy and not harm another's feelings. -- Congratulations for your efforts.

Pray all you want, it's your time you're wasting.
