Ok well, i live in Indiana. And my good guy friend from highschool is graduating from the marines in san diego next weekend. his girlfriend is my roomate and we both purchased tickets to go for a weekend about 2 months ago, without telling our parents. Well since the day was approaching we decided to tell them...her parents were ok with it, but mine were pissed! They said i cant go even though i already bought my ticket and its non refundable! i dont get it, i'll be staying with my cousin in san diego for free (so money isnt an issue) and i live on my own, an hour away from them in an apartment (but my parents pay my college) and im 18...why can't i go???? how can i convince them???

Well for starters you should have asked permission if you wanted permission. If you already live on your own, then they can't stop you, but there will be hard feelings on their part. If they decide to be upset, they may cancel your college tuition payments. Much better to talk to them about how much this trip means to you, and get your aunt and uncle involved regarding the accommodations. Try to put yourself in your parents' shoes--their 'baby' going so far away...

Good luck!

You are 18, you just go. They may take your college money away or your spending money but legally you can do whatever you want.
Is there some reason they consider you immature and not capable of making sound decisions? Or are they pissed because they maybe are working their azzes off to keep you in spending money and college funds and they see this as you blowing their hard earned money??
Try to see it from their point of view and reason out what their real feelings are about this then have a talk with them.

If you live on your own go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Them paying for your college is not and should not be an issue here. Tell all of your professors and get the assignments that you will miss and work on them. Most of your professors should be okay with this.

if your skipping college to do this then thats not suprising. start paying all your bills for that immediately, and you can go. you are an investment that your parents want to work for them.
