I'm a guy, and let me tell you: we're shy. It happens all too aften that the girl keeps waiting for the guy to ask her out (or to just say something), loses patience, and in the end, she has to be the one to ask him out. And why don't you?
You could also create the ideal circumstances for him to ask you out. If you talk about movies, and you mention you haven't seen a particular one, he might get the hint and ask you if you'll join him to see it.
But really, he likes you and you like him, why should he be the one to pop the question?
