or u can say "de que se trato todo eso" which is never really used in spanish because its a lot of words for expresing the same idea as "que fue eso" or "y Eso"

" A que venía todo eso?" ( Argentina and Uruguay) OR

"Eso con que tenía que ver?" OR " De que se trataba todo eso?" ( General, in all of South America & Spain)

I would say "Qué fue eso?" or "Qué le pasa?" (speaking of a person).

To me, "qué fue eso" is more a literal translation. In the practice, at least in Costa Rica, if somebody said something out of place (for example), people would go: "qué le pasa?". But I guess different countries have different expressions.
