Nothing that will melt. It is hot over there. Something he can use and not have to worry about it breaking, getting stolen or having to carry it back to the States. Always send sunscreen, chapstick and sunglasses. American food. reading material. The military provides the basics....you send him the goodies. A phone card so he can call you. Cologne would be nice...
The best thing........a letter, even if it a short hello....everyday at mail call.

That is wonderful that you want to send a package to Iraq. I've been mailing packages on and off for the last 5 year's. (considering my husband has been over there several times) The soldiers love just about anything that is mailed from home... just let's them know there being thought of.
Here are some idea's, just have fun with them. Some of the boxes I made theme boxes. Like a sports, games, movies, etc.
Beef Jerky, packaged cookies, ramen & soups, coffee, tea, koolaid, packaged sugar, resteraunt condiments, cracker jacks, peanuts & nutts, hard candy (remember chocolate melts), chips & dip, microwave meals (that don't need refridgerated),pop corn the list could go on and on, just be creative.
Card, Games, movies, stuffed animals, pictures of family & friends, letters, stationaries, pens & pencils etc. etc. etc.
I'm sure he'd love anything you send, expecially knowing that you put some thought into it by making it all fun.
For the holiday's a few friends and I gathered & donated goodies, and mailed a good size box for his area, so other soldiers that doesn't have much family. Got something .....
Thanks for supporting a soldier!!

You can send him things like individually wrapped snack bars, Pop Tarts, snack size bags of chips, chap stick (it will be cold there soon), Tums or Rolaids, magazines, soap or hand sanitizer, etc. They really enjoy getting just about anything.
I am Praying for his safe return.
