I thought if you had an accident anywhere, that you had to report it before you left the scene. If there were no other cars then I don't know. It depends on who seen it.

Report it to the insurance company or the police? Without knowhing what happened I will say you have "as soon as practicably possible". Most contracts don't specify a time to report. However, for hit and run losses you usually have to report it to the police at the scene or within 24 hours. You will be questioned if there is a delay in the reporting of the claim. If it is a long delay the company may be within its rights to deny coverage to you. The contract requires that all claims be reported timely and that you cooperate with their investigation.
