point 1) We, Atheists, don't detest the Bible, why should we anyway?
point 2) We, Atheists, actually READ the WHOLE Bible, which Christians don't since they only read what they're told to read and whatever verse is convenient to support the story the Church keeps telling.
point 3) There's no need to twist or distort anything, the Bible speaks for itself, and it's amazingly clear in its contents. All you have to do is read it.
point 4) You Christians picked the wrong book : nowhere in the Bible is written that Jesus was God's Son, whereas in those gospels that the Bible compilers decided not to include in the New Testament and that you Christians generally don't bother to read(such as the Gospel of Mary, that of James or that of Nicodemus, etc etc..) you can find it clearly written and repeated.
So, my brother, know that we, Atheists, don't actually detest the Bible, we detest ignorant Christians instead. Peace.

When you debate something, such as the Bible and what is written in it, you don't pick up a Comic Book and try to use it to debate.
As for twisting it, if they were all actually doing that, then they would be debunked quite easily. Instead, many people just point and say "You're twisting it" and don't show what it's really supposed to be.
Another issue would be, many believers in the Bible also pick and choose and twist to fit their belief. So I guess it's even on both sides when it comes to that.

Exactly. Atheists claim not to believe anything written in the Bible, and they certainly don't believe in God. Therefore, if atheists say that the God of the Bible is logically impossible, they can't pick and choose which scriptures/aruguments from the Bible to accept in order to "prove" their point.
On the other hand, if an atheist is sincerely looking for answers, and not just being sarcastic, derogatory and looking to try and "one-up" the believers, then I see nothing wrong with their use of scriptures. How else will they learn if they don't ask ?

I don't detest the Bible at all. I've read the whole thing; it's got good stories, a lot of history, and some pretty good ideas to living your life. To take it only as a holy book is not a good idea for anyone.
And I'd say atheists use it because of the old adage "Know thy enemy". Not a bad thing to do at all.
What I know of Cristians is that they are supposed to show compassion for those who do not believe, which makes me think that you are not a Christian, just a troublemaker. I don't think the Bible says anything about mocking unbelievers.

What makes you think atheists hate the bible? What makes you think that pointing out the discrepancies, lies and contradictions of the bible is amusing? Actually, you're right about one thing: many atheists know the bible a lot more than Christians do (atheists are often "bible scholars").

Atheists and humanists argue their points against Christianity from the Bible because that is the very source from which Christian prejudice and ignorance comes from.

It's called divine revelation dumbo-Christian scripture is the only thing on which the validity of Christianity stands or falls so it is the only thing on which Christianity should be discussed. More to the point why do Christians try and defend belief on the grounds of logic?

You wanna know why?
Because first off, many of us were NOT born atheist and were, actually, raised in some form of belief. I personally was raised Lutheran for twenty years so I know damn well what I'm talking about when it comes to the Bible when it was ground into my head every Sunday from the time I was small. So we know our Bible and know what it says.
Secondly, we don't "detest" or "hate" the Bible. We think it's a load of baloney, but we don't hate a book, no more than we hate something that we don't believe exists.
Thirdly, you want to know why we argue our point from the Bible? Because you theists do it FIRST. All you ever DO is quote the Bible and expect everyone to magically believe that it's true, even when it contradicts itself. All we're doing is using our own knowledge(before you scoff at what knowledge an atheist might have of the Bible, go back and read my first point) to even the playing field and play your game, by your rules.
This includes twisting and distorting the words of the Bible and taking it out of context. Theists have made quite the art form of doing this so they can get their own way(the arguement against gays is a nice one to start off with. Bible has six admonishments for gays and something like over 300 for straights. God clearly spends more time worrying about being faithful and loving to one another than whether or not two guys are doing it) and covering their own backsides when they get CAUGHT lying or doing something unfavorable.
Slavery come to mind there, bud? Old Testament is full of rules for how to buy and sell slaves. Seeing as how the Bible is the word of God told to men, clearly, God thinks it's just fine to buy and sell your fellow human beings. Yet slavery is illegal in most parts of the world. If the world is so predominantly Christian(America in particular), why aren't we making a huge profit off the human slave trade?
Because it was made politically unpopular and so the church decided to twist around some other Biblical passages to denounce slavery.
Same goes for divorce. Lots of biblical passages telling wives to obey their fathers and husbands and that they'll be stoned for infidelity(where guys get a slap on the wrist, which INCLUDES a passage about if a man rapes a virgin woman, he can BUY her from her father with fifty pieces of silver! Human rights my BUTT!). Divorce meant you went to hell, especially if you were female. But I don't see any whores or divorced women getting stoned. It's in the Bible, so why isn't it widespread as law?
But even though the Bible states that adulteresses must be stoned for their infidelity, the practice was politically unpopular, so again, the religious twisted around another passage to deny they ever did it.
So you say that WE twist the Bible around? No, we're just calling you theists on lies you tell to get your way based, as you claim, around your precious, vaunted Bible. You say there aren't contradictions? You say the Bible doesn't promote slavery? Or human and animal sacrifice? You say that divorce is ok in the Bible? Look again! There's a number of passages okaying these things, then turning around and condemning them.
Do tell me which passage we're to obey? Do we obey the ones that tell us to enslave people or the one that tells us not to? The way I see it, we can't do both(excuse me, serve two masters), so whichever one we choose, yup, we're still going to Hell for not obeying the other one, so how about you get over yourself and read that Bible of yours again WITHOUT skipping over passages you don't agree with?
Yeah, it's entertaining all right. It's entertaining to see the atheists GET all this stuff the Bible literally says to do, while the theists put their heads in the sand and deny the Bible says anything so repugnant.
And unless you're a bishop, priest, or any other kind of minister, you're hardly one to call yourself a "bible scholar". Get over yourself and start living a Biblical life as the Bible says, starting with sacrificing a couple of turtledoves and a ram as a sin offering and splash the blood on the altar as Aaron did because you just told one helluva lie about atheists.
Seeing as how we're both going to Hell for this arguement, guess I'll be seeing you there.

just because you are atheist does not mean you haven't read all different types of religous books. Religous people take their own books out of contest for their own sake too. Also, people that used to be of a religion decided it was crap and became an atheist have read the book too.
