Think about it. Back then a lynching was an event. Hundreds of people went to these things. They sold postcards of it. Family night out-"cmon kids were going to a lynching". And these same people went to church and thought they were Christians. Hellbound or not.
I know already if i "ask Jesus for forgiveness" bit. I think its a bit more complex than that.

That all depends on where you are standing during the lynching.

If you are hiding in the bushes, watching your friend being murdered, but afraid to stand up for fear of being "next", then NO, not guilty. You are just a sad witness.

If you are in the audience, voicing your approval of the murder, then you ARE at least guilty of complicity, if not actually being an accomplice.

Since the death of Princess Diana of Wales, such activities are also prosecutable as a crime. Those who refuse to take action are found guilty of "criminal callousness", or something like that.

Lynching is a horrible crime. No matter what religeous affiliation they have, it is a crime to sit by and allow an atrocity to occur and not make an attempt to stop it or notify authorities. Christian or not, anyone guilty of a crime needs to face the penalty of it. Many horrible things have been done in the name of "God". Please don't judge God because humans use his name to do horrible things.

The people who treated a lynching as a holiday are reaping their rewards as most are old or already dead. I am not too concerned about it as I believe they will get what they deserve.

I never saw a lynching, I never would want to see it done, and this is the part that makes me angry- the colored folks are still mad today for something that was done many years ago. I didn't do it, nor my parents! don't be mad at me for those things many many yrs ago.

AND-If that was all the kids of theses idiots did, was drag their children to see someone getting hung up- then it is THEM who is guilty. not the children

no as this was a form of public execution not only against blacks but every other ethnic background. this was a common form of punishment and yes it was brutal. however, there was a theory at the time that public hangings would help prevent crime.
