I am referring to the question someone posed earlier :

If christians can say "god bless you", why can't i respond with "goddamn you"

Why must we Christians react so negatively on what he said?

Non believers look at how we behave and talk. For me, i am a Catholic and frankly i won't want to be one if Christ behave as such. on the contrary his love for me enabled me to love my 'enemies'.

So for christ's sake, be more accomodating to them.

At least Radagast9 support me.

My brethren. God is love, didn't he endure the cross for us all?

A word of love can touch a hardened heart but harsh word can easily turn a soul away.

Remember how god love us? just do the same.

Non believer show no sign of respect because he does not or don't want to get to know God. but for us christian there is no excuse. really.

Fugitivea... thanks for ur encouraging comment. I'm not a good example for Christ as I am still human. But just don't let any Christian turn u away from seeing the beauty of God. that is the most challenging part. Really.

hmm. i guess the non-believers will be able to see how u my dear christian brethren behave and speak.

u really need to get to know christ better in person than just reading the bible daily. really. be as humble as christ as he wash his disciples' feet and he told us to do the same.

let ur love show u are his followers than using the bible as an authoritative rule. then we can truly grow in his likeness := ) cheers peace.

Finally a Christian speaking and acting like one! Wish all the Christians were like you, the world would be such a better place! And...just to set the record straight, not all Atheists are so rude and respectless like the guy who wrote that silly question; I'm not a Christian but I do have a great respect for Christians like you and for Jesus who has been one of the greatest men ever existed ( God's son or not, his value is undeniable).

I am a Christian and I think that your post is way of out line. You should not be debating or saying that you understand why atheists detest Christians.
Take your own advice and "love your enemies" and stop the debate.
You said that you are a Catholic and you used the Lord's name in vain.
You said "for christ's sake" and you did not capitalize Christ.
This religion debate has to stop, nobody is going to change their mind.

Some of your points are good, though I'm not sure I understand about the "goddamn you" question (I missed that one).

Most atheists I know hold little animosity toward Christians in general. All of us have been attacked and hurt by Christians. It is difficult not to react in kind.

There is a very hurt and vocal group that hold great animosity toward Christianity, and religion in general. It's a defensive reaction to being attacked.

For the readers who don't believe atheists are attacked, think about what is said about them:

o they are atheists so they can sin (one of the more idiotic reasons)

o they are atheists because they are angry at god (not possible to both disbelieve in something and hate it)

o they are immoral

o they are in denial

o that there are no atheists in foxholes (blatantly false)

o that someone will disavow atheism on their deathbed (My uncle died an atheist and never once changed before death)

o that atheism requires as much belief as religion - obviously false when you realize those who simply hold no belief in a diety are also atheists.

o that atheism is a religion. - This ones pretty weak even among other theists. It fits absolutely no criteria of a religion. No dogma, no creed, no temples, orthodoxy, or prescribed behavioral code of conduct.

A recent study found atheists ranked below virtually all other minority groups, they were deemed less likely to share "an everyday American's vision of society".

Atheism only means "without theism". Most atheists simply hold no belief in god, what many mistakenly refer to as agnostic. (Agnosticism is a philosophy about it's possible to know if god exists, or not - the term was coined in 1948 by Thomas Huxley). It is a mistaken belief that all atheists hold a positive view that there is no god. (See links below)

With this kind of treatment and view, is it surprising that some atheists attack Christianity and are abusive to Christians.

In Real Estate it is location, location, location that is important.
In my opinion in intellectual discourse, documentation, documentation,
documentation is of paramount importance to substantiate contentions.

So SHOW ME DOCUMENTARY EVIDENCE THAT ATHEiSTS, AS A GROUP, HATE CHRISTIANS.IF Not then lable that myth OPINION.

At this point in posing a question to a Christian the usual response is to
get a quote from scripture. That may make responders feel better but
it just won't carry the load for the millions here in the U.S. who are non
believers.

I will not abide by sin, if they ask for forgiveness I shall forgive, but as long as the Law of God says "Do not take the name of the Lord in vain," I will contenue to disapprove of such foolish talk. Even though Jesus Christ fulfilled the Law, the Law still applies to those who refuse God's love. However, I will contenue to love the sinner (as Christ loved me) but I shall, always and forever, hate the sin (as Christ hates my sin.)

People have the right to say what they want, no matter how ignorant or deliberately hurtful it will be. Christians do not have to respond the same, actually we should not. You have to consider the source. It was meant to provoke. Satan is always at work tempting us, we all know that. You need to resist temptation. Tell them that God loves them and will forgive their unkind thoughts and words.

They only way you'll get me to go for it is to get Atheists to do the same in posters here and get the Muslims to stop all the (initials inside of parenthesis about priasing this or that).

It's called everyone has to be PC.

So long as "fiction book" and "sky daddy" remarks and PBUH initials are used, everyone has equal rights.

Oh, and I guess we don't get to say Easter and Christmas in public anymore, least those terms offend anyone.

should i bend over and let them rape me too??? u have to draw the line somewhere!!!! since when has it been Christlike to let people sin by harassing u to death??? telling someone to go to hell is rude no matter who says it, and it obviously said with intent to hurt. God bless u, on the other hand is a statement that cant possibly said in any other way except kindness, cant u see a difference?

What would you have them say? His response to someone saying "God Bless you" is actually asking God to curse someone. I don't argue that he can say it. For him to say a thing like that has repercussions that he is clearly ignorant of.
Christians should be slow to anger and not react so defensively to questions.

to be honest, god bless you should be taken as a complement. christians believe in god, therefore when we say god bless you, we hope god blesses you. goddamn you is inherently meant as an insult, as per someone who doesn't even believe in god they would be mocking me.

but, it is everyone's god given right to treach each other like dirt, so i don't really care, i know im not damned, are you blessed?
