Safety first! Always play it safe on the water. Do not get in a boat if the person running the boat is intoxicated.

Always wear a life jacket or have them close at hand. Know where they are stored and also the location of a fire extinguisher.

Unless it is a larger boat, remain seated when boat is in motion.

When boat is in motion or tied up at a dock never hang your arms or legs over the side of the boat.

Don't take anything out in a boat that you aren't fully prepared to loose if it should go over the side or become water damaged. Salt water will instantly ruin things like radios and digital cameras. Even fresh water can be hazardous to electronics.

Don't forget the sunscreen! There aren't any shade trees on the water. Sunglasses are a big plus too.

Always check weather forecasts. If a storm comes, a boat IS NOT where you want to be!

Make sure the boat has enough fuel onboard for the time you plan to be boating, you can't get out and walk to shore or push the boat back to the dock if you run out.

Some people get sea sick, some don't. Dramamine (for sea sickness) is available in pills and patches and is best taken before the boat ride. Upchucking over the side of the boat IS NOT FUN and will ruin your day.

Do not overload the boat with people or cargo. All boats should have a sticker or information sign telling the rated capicity of that boat.

Have a 2 way radio or a cell phone for emergencies. Always keep your cell phone in a zip lock bag to protect it from the water splashes or falling overboard.

Also bring along some common sence and boating can be a very enjoyable activity!

What the sea's going to be like when you're travelling. For example, if it's a rough sea, you need to prepare yourself with sea-sickness tablets. Hope you have a great time! X
