Well unlike most of the people here I despise small dogs, expecially pomeranians. My mother use to breed them so I was around them a lot. Labs and Australian shepards are really good dogs, really smart, love to play, protective, loveable. all around good dogs. But the best dog I have ever had was a mutt. I agree with the person above that mutts are healthier and i think sometimes they are smarter too.

SOOoooo easy, English Bulldogs. I have two boys and they are just the greatest. English Bulldogs are known for their great personalities and gentleness, and my dogs sure do prove that theory. They are great with children, adults, other dogs, and are total pleasers. They are always happy to greet you when you get home, and they are proud to be family - they take this responsibilty seriously. I could go on and on, I would recommend this breed to anyone, but please be sure to use a reputable breeder. Backyard breeders are a serious problem with any breed of dogs, and they are the cause for many problems with a dog's behavior and health.

The smartest dog I've come across is a Blue Heeler....this is a type of Australian Cattle dog. Rotties are great dogs too, especially with children. I have a yellow lab at the moment...he's not too bright, but he's loving and very protective.

Well, for me, German shepherds are the best dogs because are highly intelligent, agile and well-suited to active working environments. Besides that, the German Shepherd Dog is a large, strong, and handsome dog

I agree with Lost In Space! Definitely pugs! I use to be a cat person ...until I met a pug! Now I have three pugs! They're a lot of dog in a small package. What characters they are! They are so loving, loyal, so ugly they're cute, very social, great with kids, affectionate and, as quoted by the PDCA, "A Pug's character is unique in that he is a clown at heart with a terrific sense of humor but at the same time he carries himself with great dignity. They are not too delicate for fun and games. A pug is anxious to please, anxious to learn and anxious to love. His biggest requirement is that you love him back."
Who couldn't love that? !

No doubt about this one...Pugs are the best pet anyone can have. I was not into small dogs until my girlfriend bought one. They are loyal, funny, so ugly their cute, and they love kids. If you are looking for great company in a small but round package they are it.
