Well, I guess like basketball players, you'll be given a chance to play as long as you can run, jump and shoot. Boxing Association have no strict ruling as up to what age a boxer can fight professionally.

There was this dude who had an amature MMA fight and he was 75 years old he won and he was in pretty decent shape for a guy his age , there's not really an age limit, so long as you have no medical conditions like heart conditions, epilepsy, or anything of that nature you can compete at the amature level, I'm not sure about Professional MMA though, the rules for amature and Pro MMA are different for safety reasons regardless of age , I think in Pro level MMA its assumed you'll peak in your mid to late thirties and this could continue for another 10 years or more if you're lucky it's all about how well you look after yourself and whether or not you can train at a high intensity, because MMA is a newer sport there is still so much untapped potential(no pun intended ) in it and thats why its been nicknamed the fastest growing sport in the world, In Thai Boxing it's probably the same as in MMA about your physical condition but they generally retire around the same time as Boxers because their bodies can't take the punishment anymore because in both sports many fighters compete from as young as 12-16 when they start fighting and turn Pro around 18-20 even still that's nearly 20 years worth of heavy handed shots they're gonna take ,going back to my point about MMA in an MMA match because you can grapple you won't throw as many shots ,also in some amature leagues in MMA headshots are expressly forbidden or sometimes the institute a grading system for matches D Class matches being the lowest of amature level with different rule sets changing all the way up to A class which would probably be for Semi Pro/ Pro fighters using the full scope o the Unified Rules of MMA

Alan ~
Once you get too far up there in the amateurs they have a division called "Masters" this is any fighter over the age of 32. Once you hit this wonderful age in order to compete in any USA Boxing sanctioned event like the Golden Gloves one has to get a MRI or CT Scan and have his/her heart checked for any abnormalities and finally one must have a release fro Doctor stating that it;s okay for the person to compete in the rigors of Amateur Boxing.
There have not been any Amateur fighters sanctioned over the age of 36 years old. There are too many risk after that age according to USA Boxing and the Olympic Committee.
If you're looking for the youngest a fighter can be sanctioned, it is 8 years old.

Alan M - I don't know the exact ruling on age. But I started boxing in the PAL at age 9 and participated in AAU sanctioned tournaments at age 11. I don't know what the upper limit age is. My apologies.
