Beagle rule #1 Never chase a Beagle!
A Beagles stile of hunting is to run a rabbit in a circle back past it's handler. So use that to your advantage. If you move toward the Beagle you are telling it to expand it's hunt, so it will just end up farther away if you try to chase it.

Beagle rule #2 Never leave a Beagle unattended and loose in the house!
Remember that the other name for a Beagle is "Chow Hound", and they will find that little spatter and eat your kitchen floor.
Always crate a Beagle when you are going to be gone, or have it outside in a fenced in aria.

Beagle rule #3 Check your fencing on a regular basis!
A Beagle will find the slightest flaw in the fence, and away they go on another adventure.

Have a look at the APDT website to find a puppy class near you. You'll get so much out of it and understand how dogs learn effectively, too. Also, Ian Dunbar's books about raising a puppy would be great for you to read. I've linked below to info about crate training - for some reason, many people have found beagles harder to potty train, but using a crate will help you a lot! Good luck!

Tom has had beagles.

Get yours started crating. Leaving them even in a fenced in yard can be trouble. They are the master escape artists!!. I have more beagle and beagle mixes escape from crates than any other.

Very needy and nosey.

Positive reinforcement (especially food) works way better with Beagles than punishment. Beagles are very smart, but their intellegence makes them very resistant to training as well.
Good luck.

My beagle is now 5 years old we love her, never hit her or smack her, she was trained to go out in 3 days, never runs away stays in any yard wherever we go! hummmmmmmmm how did I do it?

1. Crate her only when not at home
2. Keep a leash pup at all times in and out of the house
3. Put it out to go potty and tell it to go every 20 mins. ! !
4. Let it roam the house a little at a time when older
5. Play with it, love it, let it run where ever you can!
6. Never ever hit it or smack it!
7. Walk the perimeters of the yard with the pup, tell it stay in your yard, do this a couple times, then go in the middle of yard and cut it loose, if it goes near the edge remind it to stay in the yard, if it goes out of the yard, leash it up and do it all over again

Dogs are work, good ones aren't just born that way, have to take care of it and spend time with it, My Poppy has just one bad habit, she crys and sometimes barks (working on that) in the car when she sees another dog, she wants to play, we let her wine but not bark,)

Give him plenty of safe things to chew on. Dog-safe chewy toys are best. Keep him confined to a safe place like a crate when you can't supervise him. Remember, beagles are a hunting breed. Provide him with plenty of exersize and obedience training.

my ex had a beagle that had previously been abused and it ruinned the dog, even YEARS later the dog had issues with loud noises and fast movements and would usually hide somewhere in the house (not that they were the best owners, but they never abused the dog, just yelled at him)

You lucky thing you, how cute they are. Buy her stuff to chew on and remember, do all training with love and not anger. It will take consistancy on your part to train her, she is acting completely normal.
