Doesnt the fact that there is more than one religion (there are quite a lot) kinda prove that they were all just made up? also all the stories about talking animals and 8 legged elephants must be a bit of a giveaway aswell?

Lies may cover the truth but the truth will still exist. Lies do not drive the truth out of existence their effect is simply to mislead from the truth.

Have you not considered that the existence of lies requires the existence of truth ?

If there is no truth how can there be a lie to it ?

What you say is a cop out from weighing the evidence.

The fact that there are many religions shows that there is, in fact, a deeper level to experience that is approachable through practice. This experience is characterized throughout all religions as a feeling of oneness which makes possible unconditional love for all life, as well as compassion and wisdom. I see in all religions an attempt by the few who have experienced this level of reality to help those of us who have not experienced it.
But it is confusing. Even within one religion there are innumerable ways of understanding the teachings and approaching the practices. I think this shows that there are many different stages in human spiritual evolution and that at each level we understand reality, and therefore the teachings about reality, in different ways.
The reason that I affiliate myself with Buddhism is because it does not claim to know the unknowable (i.e. why we are here, is there a God?), but instead directs us back to our own experience, moment to moment, and points out that it is in the now that all reality is accessable. We are not seperate from the world we are trying to understand, therefore all the answers lie within our very selves.
As an appendage, the talking animal stories are metaphors and parables meant to help you gain a greater understanding of your own inherant wisdom and compassion. It is up to you whether the seeds of wisdom and compassion will develop.

Interesting but here is a thought...a god...so big that we as humans find it hard to comprehend... an analogy for you:

Imagine that god is an elephant...and each religion is a blind mand feeling his way arounf the object in front of him...the elephant in this case....one says "it is flat and wide and flaps" (as he touches the ear), another says "no, no, it is long and has two holes at the end" ( as he touches the trunk, yet another says "no no! You are both wrong, it is big and bulbous and heaves in and out" (as he touches the belly of the elephant.........who is telling the truth?....all...just a little bit of the same......I just feel sorry for the one at the back who tuggs the tail and is left believing the whole thing is full of sh!t......LOL

there are more than one type of Religious Belief System because there are few ( if any ) Religions which will work for all situations. a hunter - gatherer society will have different needs than an agrarian society which will have different needs than an industrialized society. when Christianity ( or any other Religion ) started out it had to change with the times or it would stagnate and die. when Christianity came into being the leaders incorporated many Pagan ideas, ceremonies, celebrations into their beginning Religion in order to make getting Pagans to join much easier rather than starting their Religious agenda from scratch.

You do realise your not going to get anywhere with this one.lol

It is complete and utter rubbish and your right on the point of there being so many diffrent beliefs.
One God says you can eat beef but not pigs, the other says Cows are sacred so have a hot pork sandwich on me, others will eat all of it as long as you kill it in a certain way!

Religious people are looking for an answer to their problems rather than sorting them out themselves, in a way they are just like the weak minded people who give money away to Psychics.

I'm not at all religious (you guessed?) so i feel i haven't wasted my one and only life sitting in cold churches singing crapy songs and praying to something that doesn't exist, if there is a God then i'll end up in hell, so at least it will be nice and warm.

I like some of the stories. Like the one about putting two of every animal on a home-made boat and sailing away for over 300 days. Imagine trying to get two of every animal on the BIGGEST ocean-going liner TODAY, plus enough food - it would be impossible!!! But try telling the christians, and they get all defensive, saying "it MUST be true 'cos it was written in the bible." All religions are a lie and a nuisance.

Not made up as such. There are a group of spiritual entities that are known as Principalities. They are the most pwerful and can adopt any shape thay can project into a persons mind. The fallen Principalities took on the identites of false gods, sometimes even breeding with human beings, bringing about the Nephilim

hi, im a christian + i can honestly say, hand on heart, that i would never ever follow a 'religion' unless i had personal proof. and i dont belive that any other person that follows a different relion, apart from christianity, can say they have a close relationship with their God like i can? i bet that they cant say that there God speaks to them, they can feel Gods love over you? so that to me proves that there is only one true relgion? i mean if no one else can prove that their God exists? no.

My religion states that there is one God. However, God reveals itself (the thought of God having one particular sex seems very wrong to me, and is not taught in my religion) through various different facets, using the facet that will most appeal to the person that S/he is trying to speak to.

Man invented religion and as there are so many countries it would be normal for each faith to have their own belief of what is true for them.
