When you overeat and your tummy hurts, the best thing to do is to get a gum and chew it. Chewing process sends an impulse to your stomach meaning that it should speed up the digestion, because the more food is coming, but your stomach can't recognize if you are really going to swallow your chewing gum. I hope this helps and clarifies your doubt.

Actually it does. As you chew the gum The brain is recieving a message that you are eating so it tells the stomach to start churning this speeds up digestion.
You should never chew gum on an empty stomach because it can cause stomach ulcers & make you even hungrier!

I agree with Rich B, more saliva would add to digestion. Also, peppermint is known to speed up the digestion process. So if you chew peppermint gum I think you'll be good to go.

Chewing does activate saliva- which has digestive properties. If you chew gum without eating first, it can make you hungry.
