And, if it is rude, what's the best way to explain that?

It really depends on where it's done. For example it's inappropriate in a work environment where it disturbs others, but I wouldn't consider it rude when hanging out with friends as long as nobody around is deepy bothered by it.

It really depends on the circumstances.

I'm With You On This One Darl, There's Nothing Much Worse Than Someone Repeatedly Singing The Same Thing Over And Over. If It Was Me I'd Say Something Like
Oy Madonna Give It A Rest And In The Name Of All That's Decent Put Some Clothes On You Look Like A Sack Of Old Spanners!

I think most repetitive motions are unintentional, but sometimes the smallest things are what irritates us the most! My mother tends to "sing" (la la la, not actual words) in the car when the radio is on. Most times I can tune it out, but some days, sheesh- I'd like to drop her off at the nearest bus stop (sorry Mom!)

Yes it's rude .. and trust me the person that's doing it is aware that it's annoying ! I have coworker who does this .... here's a few of my cures .... Sing or hum loudly along with the person or start whistling ... trust me the person will get the hint ! If they are still being an A$$$ you could bombard them with annoying questions ... Every time my coworker would start her singing crap I would interrupt her with stupid questions ... She rarely *forgets* and sings near me ... and has in fact told me on several occasions that she likes to annoy another coworker by singing near him !

Anything done repeatably for no reason than to irritate is considered
rude and and is irritating because that is the whole reason it is being done.

I think it is very rude and irritating. People should shut up more and read.

Anything repetitive is nerve wracking, singing...whistling...chewing ice...tapping...too much talking. I just say, "That's giving me a headache, could you stop for just a bit? Thanks."
